Bleach responsive stains
A bleach system is usually included within a laundry detergent to remove those stains which are not effectively removed by enzymes, surfactants or builder. Typical bleach responsive stains include tea, coffee, red wine and fruit and vegetable juices although often some mixed response soils such as baby foods or curry show a response to a bleach system, in addition to detergency and / or enzymes. Bleach degrades the coloured chromophores within the coloured stain and conventionally persalts and a bleach activator are included within a powder laundry detergent formulation to achieve this effect. Within liquid detergents the bleach hydrogen peroxide is sometimes used to deliver bleaching.
